In a significant, official u-turn the Japanese government has adopted a policy that:
- allows for existing nuclear reactors to operate beyond their current 60 year limit
- for new, advanced reactors to be built inside the premises of reactors set to be decommissioned
Allowing new reactors to be built in the old plants should reduce both permitting and construction times, as well as costs.
To run these reactors will require more uranium. Read our report on the coming of the second atomic age and the new bull run for the uranium market.
